Elijah, Elisha, and Jesus

Of the prophets, I believe that almost everyone would recognize Elijah and Elisha as the most miraculous ones. They perform miracles far greater in specularity than the others did. And among the 2, though Elijah was the master, in general, we say that Elisha performed even more miracles than Elijah.

Not too long after Elijah ascended to heaven, Elisha performed a particular miracle. In 2 Kings 4:42-44, we see that Elijah commanded 20 loaves of barley and grain to be given to 100 men to eat. And of course it was not sufficient, and people said so, but in the end, there was enough to eat and there was leftovers.

Now, in the New Testament, it is said that Jesus once fed the 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish, with 12 baskets leftover; He also fed 4000 with 7 loaves, and there were 7 baskets leftover. When He was on the cross, He cried out "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani". Some believed that He was calling for Elijah to save Him. Yet, does not the miracle already show that He is far greater than Elisha or Elijah was? In the past, there was some leftovers. Now, there are baskets of leftovers (which, I believe, has certain significance of fullness, completeness in the number - 7 and 12 are quite perfect and complete numbers).

Jesus, God's Righteousness revealed. Truly, He is the son of God. Wow.
