Truth

Today during Masterlife we were discussing what is Truth. Then I remember we said quite a bit about how God's Word is Truth. Now, forgive me while I make a short little discourse on it.

In the most basic form, Truth is what corresponds to Reality. In other words, it is True if it is real. In that sense if I say that the Table is there, and it is, that is "Truth" too.

So here, when we say that God's Word is Truth, it will be more accurate to use the verb form "True" (ie: God's Word is True). In doing so, we will be making a claim about the accuracy of what is written in it as compared to a philosophical idea of it being Truth (which is more of a descriptive word). We are saying that it is accurate, it corresponds to reality. Obviously, not all things are taken literally (like no one really believes that Jesus is a little lamb as communicated by Revelation) But they are true in communicating some idea (like how Jesus is the sacrificial Lamb of God).

Now, there was once when someone used Truth as a noun. Christ said that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Cyrus once taught about how this meant "the Truth believing which you get saved". Which is true. I have another possibility, to say that He is ultimate reality. Without Him, things do not have meaning etc. Er.. Not too sure about this. Retreating back to safer grounds, it suffice to say that this is a Big claim.

And relating truth to Faith. The wrong type of faith does not have it grounded in reality. It is more of a self created thing to believe. And clearly, that cannot work. What is true is true whether or not I believe it or not. For instance, if I have faith that a cloth tied to my back will help me fly, that faith is not going to help me to fly when I jump out of the window. But putting it back into the correct context, we CAN put our faith in the revealed will (word) of God, because it is True.

There was once a judge who asked the question "What is Truth". He didn't wait for the answer and crucified Truth Incarnate upon request of the people. There was another who stood by and saw it, and declared that Surely this is the Son of God. I guess this is the final way to look at it. He is the Truth because it is the most important question in the entire world. Who is He?

Hehe. Heavily philosophical. Quite uncertain too. Some random thoughts ;)

PS: Get well soon SJ
