First Principals

These few weeks during the sermon, I was just a little disconcerted. Not really because I don't agree with what is being said. So I surprised myself. Today, during the service, one of the possible reasons struck me. It was because the message did not fit in nicely and directly into some principals which I hold fast to as Basic Principals.

Lets see.. Some of these principals I have... Love God, fear God, trust God, become like Christ, love your neighbor, and God will honor you... The rest of the Law, natural or revealed, as well as the promises, will be based on these.

Which is a little different from the topics in these few sermons. For example, 2 weeks ago, the one about living in the favor of God. I know it is not wrong in principal. But I never thought so much about it in the macroscopic way. I always get a little uneasy when the message is directly derived from "God wants to make you the head, not the tail". Then last week's about the benefits of being in the body of Christ. Again, my view of the church was more of a place to recharge yourself spiritually. Didn't think so much about the blessings involved. Didn't seem to have much to do with my basic principals.

This is not very healthy. Much as I believe that these principals form the foundations of the Christian Faith, I know that there are other parts which I should also take note of. Those things which I see as minor, may actually mean alot to other people.

One other thing. Sometimes, when I don't understand how a certain idea come about by the study of the passage, I tend to be skeptical of it. Again, this has 2 sides to it. One may be good - keep a lookout for strange doctrine. The other is bad - could miss out on an idea that is deeper in the passage because of the reflex reaction of rejecting it. A better way can be found.

Thats all for now. Paiseh. Long time never post :P
